WEB-BASED NETWORK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM avoids bottlenecks by incorporating multiple media distribution centers with redundant public and private peering, high bandwidth capacity, and deployment of intelligent end-user routing. Frontier Corp. offers clients flexible, "liquid bandwidth" and the ability to manage their own traffic on the Frontier Optronics Network.

Through the use of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), each one of the Frontier Optronics Network fibers becomes a multiple virtual fiber. This increased capacity enhances the scalability of the system and provides bandwidth on demand.

Frontier Optronics Network is available with Frontier online billing that allows customers to access their accounts in real time. Users can manage their own traffic from any Web browser, provision bandwidth and routing, and order and track online. Frontier's system is flexible in its interoperability and open architecture. The operating system is based on TMN (Telecommunications Management Network), the predominant industry service-management standard.

Global service

LOOKING FOR NETWORK EFFICIENCY AND RELIABLE DATA TRANSFER? Sprint has introduced a suite of ATM services and service level agreements (SLAs) for all data services. The package includes ATM SLAs for availability, delay, and data delivery rate; an ATM-specific managed network service (MNS); and an ATM customer network management tool.

For customer ATM, Frame Relay, or IP service locations running over Sprint's broadband metropolitan area networks, the enhanced service level agreements provide for service availability to customers that is backed by credits if the service is unavailable. Sprint's Managed Network Services for ATM include network planning and design, performance management, and migration support. Sprint's proxy agent features permanent virtual path (PVP) and PVC status checks to quickly isolate and resolve ATM customers' problems.

In late 1998 Sprint announced Global ATM, a state-of-the-art ATM network developed by Global One, its international joint venture with Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom. This network was expected to be fully operational in more than 200 cities in over 46 countries by the end of 1998.-Sprint Corp.

Voice testing

VoP DEVELOPERS CAN SIMULATE LIVE NETWORKS to isolate faults in their products that can be identified and corrected. Ameritec has produced tools that analyze voice calls over a packet network by upgrading its AM2 Niagara, AM2S Squirt, and Crescendo Call Generators to add the ability to test voice over packet, including voice over IP, applications. This test capability can be attached to existing embedded Ameritec products by simply upgrading unit software, scripts, and protocols.

The Call Generators can perform voice quality testing once the call has been answered. This allows VoP builders to confirm the capacity of a packet data network to carry voice. Users can create tests to determine the number of packet losses as well as measure delay within the packet network.--Ameritec, Inc.
