The 10/100/1000 Copper to Fiber Converter allows network managers to migrate from 10/100 networks to Gigabit Ethernet in stages, allowing Gigabit-only switches to be connected to existing 10/100 networks. The media converter's fiber interface runs at 1000Base speeds, and fiber-connectivity options include SX optics and LX dual fiber for distances up to 65 km, or single fiber up to 40 km. In addition to the standard 220 meters with standard SX optics, an optional proprietary solution will allow users to transmit up to 2 km over multimode fiber. Also, an optional 1000BaseSX/LX signal tap provides an RJ-45 1000BaseTX sniffer port to simplify network monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting. Other features include auto-negotiation support on copper, the ability to force half-or full-duplex, an autocross on the copper port and link pass-through to ensure that the link failure is identified by a device on the remote end by simulating a link loss across the connection including fiber. The chassis-card version features full SNMP manageability. --Transition Networks
