Coax to fiber conversion

Communications News,  May, 2004

The iMcV-DS3/E3/STS-1 is a DS-3/E-3 coax-to-fiber-optic converter that allows enterprise campus network operators to convert router and ATM switch coaxial interfaces to fiber optics, extending data and voice transmission distances up to 80 km. The converter features remote end management via SNMP and the ability to support three different line speeds with one unit-DS-3, E-3 and STS-1. Coax loopback testing on the remote unit can be done from a central location via the iView (2) SNMP software interface, eliminating the need to send a technician to manually test circuits at the remote location. The device also comes with FiberAlert, a cabling troubleshooting feature that alerts network managers to any problems along the fiber run between two endpoints.--IMC Networks
