Communications News, July, 2001
COMBINE LEGACY OPTICAL TRAFFIC into a common trunk output stream on a single fiber. The MetroScout is an all-optical, multiple-channel, transparent multiplexing platform that interfaces to any legacy 1310 nm network element. The input path of the MetroScout receives optical traffic from up to four existing tributary network elements and bundles that light into a single output stream, with rates up to 40 Gbps. The unit optically bundles data on a bit-rate and protocol independent basis, allowing the combination of IP, ATM and SONET protocols of rates up to OC-192. The 3U-high unit can be used to expand an older fiber-based installation that cannot be upgraded with DWDM.--All Optical Networks
