Near-online storage - SAN and NAS solutions - Network Appliance NearStore R100 - Brief Article - Product Announcement

Communications News, July, 2002

Speed backup chores with the NearStore R100. The system complements and improves existing tape backup processes by inserting disk-based storage between application storage and tape libraries, in a two-stage configuration. Backup to the system is faster and consumes less application-server CPU than direct to tape. Streaming backups from the system to tape extends traditional backup windows, since primary storage is not involved. In addition, by keeping recently backed-up data on the system, individual files can be quickly recovered rather than remounting a full backup. The product includes data protection software and integrates with backup software applications from other vendors.--Network Appliance
