Hand-held SONET testing
EVERYDAY SONET instrument delivers DSO to OC-3c transmission and service verification. Sunrise Telecom has developed the optical SunSet OC-3 hand-held unit that offers the capabilities previously available only in heavy equipment. The SunSet OC-3 provides signal interfaces for DS1, DS3, DS0, STS-1, OC-1, OC-3, and OC-3c. This high bit-rate digital test set equips the field technician for BER testing from 1.544 Mbps to 155.2 Mbps, full-duplex T1 testing, VF channelized call set up and analysis, ISDN PRI, and GR-303 protocol analysis. Available in 3Q99, the SunSet OC-3 handles all the commonly required functions for installation, acceptance, and troubleshooting. COMBINE THE FUNCTIONALITY of DSX with performance monitoring. ADC Telecommunications has designed the DSXPERT 2004 and 2005 remote test access systems for DS 1/E1 and DS3/E3 circuits. The DSXPERT line of products provides full-time performance monitoring, access to multiple test devices, point-and-click line testing, and local or remote management with a variety of user interfaces. DSXPERT features built-in jacks for convenience. From a central location, a technician can remotely connect DSXPERTtest equipment to the DS1 or DS3 line and perform functions for a fraction of the cost of a DCS product and without the expense of dispatching a technician to isolate a problem.--ADC Telecommunications, Inc.

Hewlett-Packard's WireScope 350 is a color-touch-screen device that allows cabling contractors and IS managers to certify commercial wiring infrastructure to current and emerging LAN performance standards. WireScope 350 also meets TIA and ISO test standards for Category 5 and 5e, Gigabit Ethernet, and ATM. NOYES FIBER SYSTEMS has released the M600 mini-OTDR and the FTS 2 fiberoptic talk set. The modular M600 can be configured for 850/1300 nm multimode, 1310/1550 nm single-mode, or four-wavelength testing applications. Modules are user installable. The standard mainframe includes a 7.7" color LCD display, floppy disk drive, and nonvolatile memory to store up to 50 traces. Pulse width and range can be set automatically for maximum ease of use or manually for maximum flexibility. Windows-compatible software is provided to view, analyze, and store traces on a PC. The FTS 2 is a rugged, field-portable talk set designed for fiberoptic voice communications over spare single-mode fibers. UTP, FTP, AND COAXIAL tester is designed for LAN cabling and premise wiring. L-com's DXB66 remote cable unit provides accurate measurement and testing of premise cabling and patch cords. The device verifies pairing in compliance with EIA/ TIA568 standards. The DXB66 also tests shield continuity of shielded RJ45 connectors used in European installations and noise-impacted areas. Coaxial cable, such as Ethernet 10Base-2 can also be tested. The DXB66's remote and master units separate for premise wire tests and reattach for patch-cord testing.--L-com, Inc.
