Hand-held cable fault detector - Network testing products

Communications News, August, 2003

The Dynatel Cable Length Meter, model TDR 940CLM, allows technicians to find cuts or shorts in two-conductor cables up to a distance of 2,500 feet. Operation involves attaching the two leads to two conductors, turning the unit on, selecting the cable type from a built-in library and pressing a button. The screen displays the number of feet to the cut or short. The testing device can also be used to quickly and accurately measure the length of cable to be replaced or the amount of cable on a spool. The meter can be used with any standard tone probe to trace hidden cable or identify a pair in a cable or dropwire. The tool carries a one-year warranty, resembles a TV remote control and is powered by four AA alkaline batteries.--3M
