IP phone - New Products

Communications News, August, 2003

Provide both voice and data communications to the desktop with only a single wire from the network room. The ZIP 4x4 IP Phone is built on open technologies and runs on a highly stable, real-time Linux operating system. It is compatible with any IP telephony system using session initiation protocol (SIP), and has support for advanced features such as line-rate Ethernet switching, voice encryption and five-way conferencing. The unit provides four simultaneous incoming or outgoing calls, and has four Ethernet ports to allow other devices, such as laptops and PDAs, to obtain line-speed connectivity to the LAN through the phone. The phone retrieves its software and configuration from a TFTP server and locates SIP servers using DNS-SRV. An end-user relocating within the enterprise needs only to plug the phone into another Ethernet port to be instantly provided with the same voice and data services.--Zultys
