Analog telephone over fiber - Cabling and enclosures - Transition Networks POTS Media Converter - Brief Article

Communications News, Sept, 2003

Voice signals can now be connected to distant equipment using standard telephone signaling over the fiber infrastructure. The POTS Media Converter converts voice-grade electrical signals from copper to fiber, allowing low-cost integration of fiber in legacy plain old telephone system environments.

The converter's fiber interface runs at 25-Mhz speeds, and fiber connectivity options include multimode optics and single-mode dual fiber, with distances up to 80 km or single fiber up to 40 km. Operating in pairs, the copper-to-fiber converter system provides audio transmission, caller ID and ringing at the distant end. The converter is available in two versions, standalone and as a card to fit the company's chassis cabinets.--Transition Networks www.rsleads.com/309cn-321
