Jet Airways, a privately-owned Indian carrier, has said that it is planning to add 20 extra small aircraft to its fleet over the next five years.
The carrier currently only has five small aircraft, but is planning to boost services to more small towns and tourist centres and estimates that it will need about 20 extra aircraft to achieve this goal.
Since commencing regional operations in October, Jet Airways has acquired three 64-seat turbo prop ATR 72-500 aircraft and is planning to add two more by March or April 2000. The augmentation of its fleet will include the purchase of small 70-seat jet aircraft. The carrier also has 25 wide bodied aircraft for services between India`s large cities.
