The family of an All Nipon Airways pilot who died during a hijacking on 23 July have filed for workers compensation with the Labor Standards Inspection Office in Tokyo.

The filing is being made under the Workers` Compensation insurance Law and was filed on 22 December after the family attended a hearing on 20 December for the man who is accused of the pilot`s death.

The pilot was stabbed by a 29 year-old hijacker when he refused to let the man fly the Boeing 747 aircraft. The accused hijacker has pleaded guilty to the charges but his lawyers are saying that he should not be held criminally responsible because he was mentally ill at the time.
