Second fatal crash in less than a week for Cubana de Aviacion

On 25 December Cubana de Aviacion suffered another loss when a Yakovlev-42 aircraft crashed in Venezuela killing all 22 people onboard.

The aircraft, which was en route from Havana, went down near Bejuma, about 100 miles southeast of the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, as it was approaching the Valencia airport to land.

Cuban authorities arrived in Venezuela on 27 December to join the team of investigators who are still searching for the aircraft`s flight data recorder.

So far the cause of the accident remains unknown. Passengers on the aircraft included four Cubans, four Venezuelans and two Dutch. The remaining 12 people were air crew members.

This latest accident follows the crash of a Cubana de Aviacion DC-10 aircraft on 21 December that killed 23 people and injured 70 others.
