The civil aviation authority of Bahrain has announced that the US National Transportation Safety Board has confirmed that the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder recovered from the wreckage of the crashed Gulf Air A320 aircraft were in good condition and had produced excellent quality data.

The statement was made as some 70 divers continued to scour the waters off Bahrain for wreckage after the aircraft crashed on 23 August killing 143 people. The civil aviation authority also indicated that it expected that detailed analysis and correlation of the recorders would take several more weeks.

Gulf Air has stated that the pilot of the crashed aircraft had aborted one landing and gone around for a second attempt when the aircraft crashed. The pilot apparently did not report any technical problems nor give any indication of concern according to Reuters.
