Continental Airlines has decided to end its cooperative agreement with Air France, after the latter formed an alliance with rival American carrier Delta Air Lines.

Continental Airlines had said that when Delta Air Lines and Air France first formed their alliance that it would continue to work with the French carrier, but has recently sought to terminate the agreement before its June 2004 expiration date and has already made a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Continental Airlines has also apparently signed a preliminary joint marketing agreement with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which is in an alliance with Northwest Airlines, a US carrier that holds a controlling stake in Continental Airlines.

The agreement between Continental Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is expected to be finalised in 2Q2000 according to Reuters.
