A new aviation act is being proposed by the Indian government.

The Civil Aviation Act 2000 would embody the provisions of the Aircraft Act 1934, with revisions where necessary, and would provide for the establishment of a Civil Aviation Authority that would assume the existing regulatory functions performed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The Act would also see the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security brought in under the new Civil Aviation Authority in order to improve coordination and avoid the overlapping of functions.
