Lacsa Airlines has problems with US route - Brief Article

Airline Industry Information, Feb 7, 2000

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Costa Rican carrier Lacsa Airlines has encountered problem on one of its routes to the USA and began cancelling services between Costa Rico and Orlando International Airport from 21 January 2000.

Flights were also cancelled on 4 and 5 February, after Lacsa Airlines had apparently told Orlando International Airport authorities that services would recommence on 3 February. No date has yet been set for the resumption of services according to an airport spokesperson and no explanation for the cancellation has been given either.

Lacsa Airline is part of an alliance of Central American airlines called Grupo TACA, which has an agreement with American Airlines to the effect that the airlines will help out with each others` flights if weather or breakdowns cause problems. A spokesperson for American Airlines said he had no information about Lacsa`s problems in Orlando, but said that passengers ticketed with the carrier should be able to fly with American Airlines if Lacsa Airlines had made the appropriate arrangements.

A travel agent with Go Travel has said though that her clients are not being permitted to fly with American Airlines and are being accommodated in poor conditions to wait for the next, infrequent Lacsa Airline flight and in some cases arriving two days late, according to The Orlando Sentinel.
