Rumours that British Airways (BA) is facing industrial action by its pilots have been rejected by the carrier.

A spokesperson for BA said that reports in Sunday newspapers that its pilots may strike over plans to cut costs on European short-haul routes from London-Gatwick airport and assign these to the recently acquired CityFlyer Express were `speculation.` BA has also said that its plans to transfer some short haul routes had not been secret when the carrier bought CityFlyer Express.

The speculation resulted in a drop in BA`s share price to GBP3.85 on 10 January 2000.
