Industry observers have speculated that Malaysian Airline System BhD (MAS) is on the verge of announcing a new debt restructuring plan that features KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as a major stakeholder.

Aviation industry analysts have said that the recent tie-up between Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways has put pressure on the Malaysian carrier because it means the British airline is unlikely to renew a ten-year code-share pact with MAS when it expires in May 2005.

MAS has denied the speculation and KLM has so far declined to comment.
