An alliance between South African Airways (SAA) and Delta Air Lines, a US carrier, has been approved by the US Department of Transportation.
The approval means that SAA will be able to start direct services between Johannesburg and Delta Air Lines` hub in Atlanta under a code-sharing arrangement with the American carrier by the end of January.
The approval does not include the go ahead for Delta Air Lines to maintain its right to sell tickets to South Africa on Air France, its French alliance partner, with this issue to be decided separately according to Business Day.
