Officials from America and Argentina held talks on 19 January in an attempt by the USA to ensure that an open skies agreement due to be phased in from 1 September is not discarded.

Argentina announced on 7 January that is was postponing the implementation of the open skies agreement because of a rift between Aerolineas Argentinas and American Airlines, which Argentina claims has been mismanaging the Argentinian carrier.
