Flights at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport were cancelled or combined with others on 23 January as airport workers struggled to de-ice aircraft after an ice storm swept through the area.

At Charlotte-Douglas International Airport injuries were avoided when a US Airways MD-80 aircraft slid off the runway onto a grassed patch while attempting to turn from a runway onto a taxiway, but at Nashville International Airport a Northwest Airlines DC-9 was damaged when a de-icing truck nicked its wing while attempting to clear the tarmac.

No one was injured in either of the incidents.
