The Boeing Company said on 30 December 1999 that its aircraft sales had risen by about 10% during 1999 to a new record of 620 aircraft.
A spokesperson for Boeing said he expected sales to decrease this year since one of the `biggest factors (in 1999) was the requirement to replace Stage 2 or noisier aircraft by 31 January 1999.`
In related news, Boeing Co announced that Hapag-Lloyd AG, a German carrier, purchased two 737-800 aircraft for about USD100m on 30 December 1999, which were already accounted for in Boeing`s totals released on 15 December.
Boeing also announced the sale of six Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft to Air Berlin in a deal worth approximately USD300m. This deal was not included in the sales data published on 15 December.
