A new report from the Aviation Daily newsletter and BACK Aviation Solutions, an aviation data provider and consultant, has predicted that deliveries of regional jet aircraft will outstrip those of larger aircraft in the next 20 years.
The report also forecast that the demand for regional jet aircraft will total about 14,000 in the same 20-year time period, with 10-120 seat aircraft expected to sell the fastest on a global basis.
Deliveries of these smaller aircraft will most likely continue to be dominated by manufacturers such as Canada's Bombardier Inc, Brazil's Embraer and Fairchild Dornier, a joint US-German company, despite the introduction of smaller aircraft series by Boeing Co and Airbus Industrie, which traditionally produce larger aircraft.
Demand in the USA is expected to account for about 50% of the regional aircraft deliveries although deliveries to Europe will grow at a faster pace according to the report.
The report also predicted that current labour problems related to the use of regional jet aircraft will lessen as the demand for jet aircraft services at non-hub airports increases according to Reuters.
