The Comesa (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) liberalised air transport service will be implemented shortly after Comesa's director of infrastructure development said that Zambia will lift its suspension of the service.

The announcement follows talks between Zambia and the regional body for Eastern and Southern Africa and follows the suspension of the service by Zambia in 1999 as part of an attempt to allow the country's new local airlines to build their business up.

A meeting between the civil aviation directors of Comesa countries will be held in April to discuss the status of the air transportation pact and to look at future plans and possibilities according to Times of Zambia.
