The US Second Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a ruling allowing families of the victims of the 1996 Trans World Airlines (TWA) Flight 800 crash to seek higher damages against the airline and Boeing Co.

The court affirmed the finding that the crash occurred on US controlled waters and not on international waters known as 'high seas', allowing families to make claims for punitive and emotional damages as well as monetary losses.
