The International Air Transport Association (IATA) believes that e-ticketing will save the airline industry USD1bn annually in distribution costs.

IATA will launch the new e-ticketing system GlobalET in the middle of the year which will offer airline's worldwide a globally available e-ticketing service which has the capability of integrated interline ticketing.

The system will be service-managed and coordinated by IATA to ensure protection of airline confidential data and neutrality through Digital Security Service and Clearing House.

GlobalET has apparently been heavily publicised but as of yet no airlines have subscribed to the system according to AsiaPulse.
