Airbus Industrie, a European aircraft manufacturer, has forecast that Argentina will need 130 passenger aircraft worth about USD8.5bn over the next 20 years to cope with future travel demand.

A spokesperson for Airbus Industrie indicated that Argentina's aircraft acquisitions would form a significant portion of the estimated 1,104 aircraft expected to be bought in the Latin American and Caribbean regions over the next 20 years. The company is expecting the demand for air travel in these regions to grow as wealth increases and air traffic becomes more affordable.

Airbus Industrie has also stated that it intends to boost production of its A320 series to a combined rate of 30 aircraft per month by the end of 2002 due to increasing demand. This would be the highest sustained production rate ever achieved by the company according to Reuters.

The A320 series of aircraft have a capacity of 100-175 passengers.
