SriLankan Airlines has reported an improvement in punctuality, with more than 95% of flights taking off within 15 minutes of schedule.

The carrier recently established a 'delays committee' to tackle the problem, comprising representatives from each of the airline's key departments. SriLankan Airlines also reported that 81% of flights were on time during October 2000 compared to 70% in October 1999.

In other news, the carrier has indicated that its plan to develop Colombo into a major hub in South Asia is beginning to 'take shape.'

SriLankan Airlines has indicated that its services from Europe and the Middle East are connecting with an increasing number of services to India, the Far East and Australia. The carrier has recently started services to new destinations such as Beirut, Berlin, Dhaka, Milan, Stockholm and Sydney, with Jakarta to be added soon.

The airline has also negotiated capacity increases to India, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Thailand, Indonesia and Australia according to Daily News, a Sri Lankan newspaper.
