US airlines are reported to have survived the Thanksgiving holiday travel period with relatively few problems, despite poor weather and ongoing labour disputes.

Joe Brancatelli, spokesperson for Biztravel.com and an airline watchdog and columnist, rated the airlines' performance in the following way: 'With 10 being livable and 1 being total disaster, I'd say 5'.

Official cancellation and delay figures have not yet been released for the weekend, but some major airports - including Logan Airport in Boston and Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports - indicated that no major problems had been experienced. Airlines such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines also stated that operations had gone better than expected, especially at United Airlines which is currently having labour problems with its mechanics.

A spokesperson for United Airlines also stated however that though the weekend had gone fairly smoothly, the carrier was still not offering a level of service that it considers 'normal'.

United Airlines cancelled about 77 of its 2,300 systemwide flights on 26 November, with 47 of those attributed to maintenance-related issues and the rest to inclement weather conditions.
