An Indian Airlines flight was forced to circle Gauhati airport, India on 29 September after an elephant broke through a wall and started wandering around.
The elephant apparently tore down an airport fence and broke down a gate where luggage carts are kept. The animal did not enter the runway area, but a spokesperson for the airport stated that the Indian Airlines flight was asked to circle because the airport did not wish to take any risks.
Airport staff used firecrackers and flares to drive the elephant away and villagers were posted around the airport to beat drums if the elephant reappeared according to The Associated Press.
