Stormy weather conditions caused numerous delays and cancellations at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on 11 September.

Some 5,000 passengers were stranded overnight at the airport, with people sleeping on cots or just in cardboard boxes or sprawled on idle conveyor belts. The thunderstorms rolled through in two stages on 10 September, causing ripple effect delays across the US domestic system during Tuesday.
