Northwest Airlines launches wireless information service

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Northwest Airlines, a US carrier, has introduced wireless services that will provide customers with flight status paging services using alphanumeric pagers, handheld devices, mobile phones or a traditional e-mail account.

A message will be delivered one to four hours prior to flight arrival or departure, providing up-to-date flight and gate information.

In other news, Northwest Airlines and its affiliate Express Airlines I, are to upgrade services between Montgomery and Memphis. Of the four services available, three will be operated with a 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet aircraft and the fourth with a 33-seat Saab 340 turboprop.
