Mohammed Fahim Rayan, the president of EgyptAir, has said that the results of an investigation into the crash of EgyptAir flight 990 should be announced in November.
The investigation is being carried out by the US National Transportation Safety Board and a team of Egyptian aviation experts.
Rayan also said that he had met with officials from Boeing Co, the US aircraft manufacturer, to discuss possible problems with the aircraft`s elevator system as well as the possible impact of electromagnetic waves on the aircraft`s controls according to Xinhua. Boeing has apparently agreed to answer EgyptAir`s questions, which according to Rayan `reflect Egypt`s points of view on what really happened to the aircraft.`
EgyptAir flight 990 crashed after taking off from New York on 31 October 1999 killing all 217 people onboard. US investigators have indicated that they think one of the aircraft`s co-pilots may have downed the aircraft as part of a suicide attempt; however this theory has been strongly rejected by Egyptian authorities who believe problems with the aircraft were to blame.
