Officials for the New Bangkok International Airport Co have indicated that all four consortia submitting bids for the construction of the passenger terminal and concourse buildings had exceeded the government`s USD1.07bn combined budget by a considerable amount.
The lowest bid submitted for the passenger terminal alone was for USD495m, while the lowest for the concourse buildings was USD802m according to the Associated Press. These were submitted by the CKKB joint venture with Thai company Ch. Karnchang, Japan`s Kajima and Kumagai Gumi and Bilfinger Berger Bauaktiengesellschaft of Germany; and The Taisei-Mitsubishi joint venture, with Japan's Taisei and Mitsubishi as partners respectively. These companies will be called in for negotiations this week.
Other bids were also submitted by the ITO joint venture, with Thailand's Italian-Thai Development and Japan's Takenaka and Obayashi corporations; and the Thai-Japanese SVNPK joint venture, with Shimizu Corporation, Vichitbhan Construction, Nishimatsu Construction, Prayoonvisava Engineering and Krung Thon Engineering.
If the government is unable to get the project off the ground within budget then bidding envelopes for a second version of the design will be opened.
