Figures show growth in US regional jet service

More people flew on regional jets in the United States last year despite the fact that fewer carriers operated a regional jet service.
Preliminary figures released by the Regional Airline Association show that more than 84m people flew by regional jet in the US in 2000, an increase of 8% on the previous year. At the same time there were 94 airlines operating regional jet services, a decrease of 3.1%, but the number of aircraft in service rose by 3.8% to 2,271.
The survey also found that regional carriers served 95% of all airports offering commercial airline service in North America, Reuters reported.
