Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien is to meet Brazilian President Fernando Cardoso on Thursday (19 April) to discuss the ongoing trade dispute between their countries.

The dispute began when Canada accused Brazil of subsidising the airline manufacturer Embraer, a competitor of Canada's Bombardier Inc. Canada has received permission from the World Trade Organization to impose retaliatory sanctions, but has yet to do so.

Brazil claims to have stopped the practice opposed by Canada.
