The Hong Kong Aircrew Officers Association (HKAOA), which represents some 1,300 of Cathay Pacific Airways' 1,500 pilots, has called upon the carrier to meet with the union to discuss safety improvements.

HKAOA recently sent a letter to Cathay Pacific's director and chief operator, Philip Chen, asking that the airline begin developing new and comprehensive flight safety procedures and training programmes to better train pilots and cabin crew for situations that may threaten crewmembers and passengers.

The union also wants the airline to consider the installation of bullet-proof cabin doors for the entire fleet, as other carriers worldwide have done.
