Airline Industry Information, Feb 2, 2001

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The door of a Singapore Airlines aircraft was reportedly ripped off yesterday (1 February) when a passenger walkway collapsed at Sydney Airport.

Stephen Forshaw, a Singapore Airlines spokesman, said that the incident occurred about an hour after the Boeing 747-400 had arrived from Singapore and all the passengers and crew had got off. There were reportedly no injuries.

According to Forshaw, the incident interrupted flight schedules, with one departure having to be cancelled. The aircraft would apparently be grounded in Sydney for at least two days while the damage was repaired.

Sydney Airport officials are reportedly investigating the incident.
