Japan Airlines Co Ltd, Japan Air System Co Ltd and All Nippon Airways Co Ltd (ANA) have all indicated that they have no immediate plans to purchase aircraft from Airbus Industrie, the European aircraft manufacturer.
The airlines were responding to rumours that one Japanese airline was about to purchase 15 aircraft from a European aircraft manufacturer, which might include Airbus' new A380 superjumbo aircraft, Reuters reported. A spokesperson for ANA stated: 'We cannot say we aren't interested in the A380, but it would be very expensive to adapt peripheral facilities.'
Airbus Industrie has previously indicated that it is keen to win a deal with Japan Airlines, which currently has an all-Boeing fleet.
