Delta Air Lines, a US carrier, is to reduce its flight schedule by an average of 2.7% through 1Q'2001.

The airline says the reduction is due to problems with pilot shortages and varies across different markets. This month Delta will cut one daily round-trip flight between Atlanta and both Newark and Tampa, and one between Jackson and Shreveport. In February Delta will cut about 4% of its schedule, followed by a further reduction of 3.5% in March.

In addition Comair, a subsidiary airline, will begin flying certain routes to replace the Delta Air Lines services. The carrier has stated that its hubs at Atlanta and Cincinnati are facing the most cuts, while services at Dallas-Fort Worth and Salt Lake City will be largely unaffected, according to The Associated Press.
