Ansett and Qantas, two major carriers operating in the Australian domestic market, met separately with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on 3 January to discuss the carriers' attempts to gain control of Hazelton Airlines, a regional airline.

No details were provided, however the ACCC has indicated that the airlines will report back with further information about their bids shortly, according to Asia Pulse.

In related news, Qantas has increased its bid for Hazelton Airlines from AUD1.20 to AUD1.50 per share according to the Financial Review.

The increase, which is subject to approval by the ACCC, comes after the Hazelton family agreed to sell its remaining shares in the regional carrier to Ansett. Ansett now holds a 35.36% stake in Hazelton Airlines.
