Somchet Thinaphong, the president of New Bangkok International Airport Co (NBIA), was reportedly suspended from his position on Monday (14 May) and placed in an inactive post in the transport ministry.
Somchet's suspension is apparently related to allegations of corrupt procurement practices at NBIA by the Airports Authority of Thailand, NBIA's major shareholder. Upon being suspended, Somchet stated, 'Everybody has to admit that the project, also known as Nong Ngu Hao airport, will be further delayed. Don't lie to the public,' according to The Associated Press.
The airport was scheduled to open in 2004.
