SAS grounds MD-80 aircraft for checks

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Scandinavian airline SAS grounded 43 of its MD-80 aircraft on Friday (9 November) after a fault was discovered in the undercarriage of one of the aircraft.

An SAS spokeswoman said the fault - a break in one of the legs of the landing gear - had been discovered during a routine check.

The inspections of the aircraft and any possible repairs were expected to be completed by early this week.
