Northwest Airlines has suspended two private security managers following a security breach that shut down Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Tuesday (13 November), delaying about 7,000 passengers on 50 flights.

The airport closed down after a food service worker apparently misunderstood security workers and continued through a checkpoint after being asked to stop. The women got onto a train from the main terminal to a satellite terminal.

The airline has now changed security procedures, making it possible for any security worker to stop the subway train using an emergency button.

A duty manager and supervisor from the security firm Huntleigh USA Corp have been suspended pending further investigation, reported The Associated Press.
