Malaysian Airline System (MAS) has announced its intent to drop some routes, review route frequencies, sell assets and possibly cut jobs in an attempt to reduce its losses.

A total of 12 unprofitable international routes - mostly in Europe and Australia - will be dropped, adding up to a saving of MYR190m per year. Staff reductions will be achieved through reducing the use of contract staff, early retirements and normal attrition.

Despite the cut backs, MAS still plans to increase frequencies to regional destinations, including Tokyo, Bangkok, Jakarta and several cities in China.
