Italian and US flight authority officials held a conference yesterday (10 April) to call for international regulations on the sale of aircraft parts.
The conference was prompted by the discovery of falsely labelled secondhand aircraft parts by Italian police in January 2002. Police reportedly seized containers in Rome and Naples, which included scrap metal, that were being prepared for shipment to the US.
The Italian and US officials have stated that they will lobby the International Civil Aviation Organisation - the agency that oversees civil aviation regulation - to set up regulations governing the aircraft parts trade, reported The Associated Press.
