Four new airlines have reportedly received licences to operate flights to and from Uganda.

SN Brussels Airlines - the successor of the defunct Belgian airline, Sabena - will begin operations on 26 April. The airline will initially operate three flights to Entebbe every week, using a 264-seat Airbus A330 aircraft. A fourth frequency will be added to the route in June.

AfricaOne will be officially launched on 29 April and will offer flights between Entebbe, Lagos and Dubai using a 267-seat DC10-30 aircraft from 1 May. The new airline, which has hubs at Entebbe and Lagos, will also fly on behalf of Gambia-based Red Air between Lagos and Gatwick via Banjul, Gambia as well as Freetown in Sierra Leone.

Two other Ugandan airlines have also been licensed to operate in Uganda. Africa Air will operate flights to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Harare, Lusaka, Nairobi, Johannesburg and Dubai, while Air Uganda has acquired a Boeing 767 and other aircraft for services that will be launched shortly, reported The East African.
