Major US airlines have failed, for the second time, to add USD20 to leisure fares.

American Airlines began the latest fare increase on Thursday (18 April) with a USD10 fare increase each way on discounted fares. Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines and US Airways increased their fares on Friday (19 April), with America West increasing some fares in selected markets.

However Northwest Airlines and United Airlines refused to match the increase, thus forcing American Airlines to remove the increase on Sunday (21 April). The other airlines have also now removed the increase on their fares, reported The Associated Press.
