Kenyan air traffic controllers fail to reach agreement with government

Representatives of air traffic controllers in Kenya met with government officials yesterday (3 April) for the first time since they launched strike action.

Accompanied by officials from the departments of aeronautical information, telecommunication engineering and communication, the officials met with Transport and Communications Permanent Secretary Sammy Kyungu. The four-hour meeting, which began at 1000 and ended at 1400 local time, failed to reach an agreement.

The air traffic controllers want a basic salary of KES100,000, up from KES7,500, with a house allowance of KES33,000, up from KES3,500, according to The Nation.
