Delta Air Lines is offering a rare glimpse into the golden age of aviation with a tour by a restored 21-passenger DC-3 aircraft during April.

The aircraft, dubbed Ship 41, was delivered to Delta Air Lines from Douglas Aircraft Company in 1940 and was reportedly the first DC-3 to carry Delta passengers. Ship 41 and a crew of Delta pilots and mechanics - who rebuilt the aircraft to its original specifications - are travelling to Phoenix to participate in the annual Air Transport Association Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul Conference and Exhibition.

En route, the aircraft will visit Pensacola, Fla.; Mobile, Ala.; New Orleans and Monroe, La.; Houston, Austin and Midland, Texas; and Tucson, Ariz. The aircraft will remain in Phoenix for three days before returning through Albuquerque, N.M.; Amarillo, Texas; Clinton/Sherman and Oklahoma City, Okla.; Little Rock, Ark.; and Hunstville, Ala.
